My suggestion is that a GFS100 download be made for the whole globe (Say from Lat +75 down to Lat -75) so that no matter what race or challenge is up, all cells have wind values. At the moment someone can inadvertently sail out of the wind zone and stops dead.

Races with smaller grids (50 or 25) can have a reduced zone more accurate, but if they sail out of it, they would still have the wind indicated by the 100 grid.

Maybe if too big a download, make it the GFS250 for the whole world and have the GFS100, GFS050 and GFS025 as at present with defaulting to the GFS250 if outside the expected sailing area?
