As the question was asked, I remind you that it is always possible to jump from the Pilot Boat during a race, even quite late!
On short races it's not worth it because it slows down quickly and ends up stopping (see how it works in the manual, §6), but here there's still a bit of room. You can recognize it by its more pronounced black outlines.
The pilot boat is randomly hooked up to a boat in the race that is not too well ranked, and depending on the routes chosen by each of them, it can happen that a badly ranked boat is actually not badly placed. The moment chosen to jump into the water late can therefore also be strategic 8-)
However, beware!!!! there is no question of abandoning the race to leave with the idea of having a better position with the PB, any withdrawal is irrevocable!!!
