Incident 13 May 2020

Message par smiticks42 » 13 mai 2020 18:16

An electrical problem occurred last night at our webhost, so the game was interrupted.

This has just been electrically restarted, the technical staff is mobilized to restart everything so that the winds are loaded as soon as possible.

Stay tuned,

Sorry about this incident.

Carnival race will restart at 20:05 tonight with current boat positions. To schedule, the trick is to put your boat at the anchor and to define the first entry in the scheduler 20:05 + heading + sail. Then schedule as usual for further entries.

CHange 20h05 to 20h0x for other races. x is the iteration minute.

An UPS failed last night at our hosting service at around 02h30 UTC+2.

A volunteer of the hosting service changed it at 17h45.
The boats were stopped and the winds manually donwload to restart the races at 20h00.

Unfortunately we provided a wrong advice in order to restart properly with the schedule points. Anchor was not the good solution.
Some may have lost one or some iterations before manually setting a sail.
We apologize for this.

The good restart procedure will be written on the forum, for future use, very soon as another power off is scheduled in 2 weeks for maintenance (more news soon).

The duration of the power cut will be substracted from the total elapsed time for all boats on the Jules Verne and Australia challenges soon.

That's ok Blaise, the EF1 made their own procedure that worked quite well and did not lose us any time. It causes a strange phenomenon that one must ignore. Here is how we did it:
  1. Drop the anchor to make sure the position of the boat is at the time of the restart
  2. Set the time at 20:00 for the 1st schedule point and choose heading and sail
  3. Continue adding successive schedule points until satisfied with the programming
  4. Set the heading of the boat to be the same as that of the 20:00 schedule point
  5. Now is the tricky and scary part, replace the anchor by the sail selected for 20:00. All the schedule points will move a lot (by about 2 hours worth of sailing) but we must ignore this
  6. Finally we delete the 20:00 schedule point since it is no longer required AND WE DO NOT CHANGE ANY OTHER SCHEDULE POINTS
Then we wait patiently for the start. After the start, we may need to adjust some schedule points, on the Carnaval#5 they all were shifted by aboout 5 minutes because the start was at 19:55 instead of 20:00, but we were delighted with this nice surprise.
