Server shutdown for maintenance Thursday May 28 from 07h00 to 20h00 UTC+2

Message par blzblz » 25 mai 2020 22:19

Dear skippers;

Electric maintenance work is scheduled Thursday May 28 starting at 07h00 UTC+2 at our hosting service.

The itireation at 06h5x UTC+2 will be the last on all races.
All races will be restarted at the end of the day for the 19h5x iteration.

The shutdown duration will be substract to the total race time on the Jules Verne challenge, and maybe on the Australia Record.

We apologize once again for the wrong instructions given last server shutdown recently to use the scheduler a bit before restart.
As limelight mention it (thanks to him), the best solution seems to keep a sail but set the heading full toward the wind (twa = 0) and then start the first schedule point at 19h5x UTC+2.
Anyway, it's a good idea to be present around 20h00 UTC+2 if possible to check that everything is ok.

As during each server shutdown, live informations should stay available on the following links:

Thank you for your understanding.

That's not exactly what limelight said. limelight said:
  1. Drop the anchor if it's not already down.
  2. Do all your programming with the scheduler starting at 19:5x (I said 20:00 but now I know 19:5x is better)
  3. Set the boat heading the same as what the scheduler has for 19:5x
  4. Set the same sail on the boat as what the scheduler has for 19:5x CAUTION: ALL THE WAYPOINTS WILL MOVE AND LOOK WRONG. IGNORE THAT!!!
  5. Finally delete the 19:5x schedule point since the boat is set to start.

thanks

Paradise failed a good re-start
sailed , I think, just one iteration after the restart and grounded. found her, some 6 hrs later and needed 3 iterations to get her of the beach; must have been a muddy mangrove forest, I fear.

sail on

fair winds

Tough luck Ard, there was indeed a little problem with the scheduling. Because the boat was frozen at 7:00 (or 6:5x) which is wheb the power was cut-off, when we tried to program a 19:5x restartm the boat saw that as 2 weather updates away and its pprojection was based on the +24 winds instead of the +12. Building waypoints that way would indeed have been inaccurate and a trip into the mangroves quite likely. Nothing beats being at the computer when it happens, but it is hard for those of us living far East, we have to get up so early

RG are aware of the problem but they have no control on the maintenance timetable.
