Test projection line update from 18 hours to 36 hours
Hi all,
The projection (prediction) line ahead of the boat is now 18 hours long.
We are going to try to extend it to 36 hours.
A previous test a few years ago was working ok for some players, but not ok for others (no more projection line).
We are going to use the test server to test this, so that nobody will experience troubles on the production server (real game).
The test server address is:
http://51.15.174.110/index_rg.php
!!! CAREFUL !!!
You should not use the test server and the production server with the same web browser at the same time, or you may experience troubles on the real game.
Either use two different web browsers, or use the same web browser, but login to the test server to test, then close it and relaunch the real game from the starting page: http://www.regattagame.net
For now, the +36 hours projection line is only displayed when opening a race, or when refreshing the map (with the green button with a white arrow inside). If it is working for everybody, then the +36h porjection line will be implemented in all other cases (heading change with the wheel, scheduler, etc).
On the test server, the race Tokyo Valpo 2020 is the only race that is running to avoid overload (small server).
Everybody should test this improvement so that we will be sure that it is really working ok.
Thanks in advance for your tests and your feedbacks.

Re: Test projection line update from 18 hours to 36 hours
I have tested the 36 hour projection line on my MAC with use of the demo boat. The web browsers Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari were tested. Everything, including the auto heading button appear to be working fine.

I have also tested with Firefox. It all seems to work fine, I have a question however, is it the intention to also give more scheduler points? 9 are hardly going to be sufficient to use the extended projection.
With the 'windvane' some very interesting patterns can be drawn
I think everybody should try this test server.

Tnaks Coromandel and limelight for your feedbacks.
Nobody seems to complain until now so this update will be move to the production server later today.
All the pages related to the projection lines will be updated tep by step, one by one.
Of course, 9 scheduler points are not enough to build a decent route over 36 hours. More scheduler points will be added a little bit later, we still have not decided how many, nor how to set their display tables.
Sure, the route with the windvane turned on can be very special, you are an artist limelight
We might have the projection line make a whole turn around the earth at 85° N next Frozen leg...
We should see a bit more CPU load on the server as the projection line is computed servrside, but Nestor CPUs (the game server) are still underused so there should be no problem for the game availibility unless we get a few more hundreds players

Re: Test projection line update from 18 hours to 36 hours
Hi all,
The projection line of 36 hours (instead of 18 hours) has just been set up on Nestor, the production server, for the demo boat only.
Thank you for testing and for your feedbacks.
Carfeful: Do not use the same web browser to test the demo boat and to control your own boat at the same time. Try with the demo boat, and when done, relaunch the game from the starting page and login again with your own boat.
The 36 hours projection line should appears on all races, eventually after refreshing (big green button with the with arrow inside).
Depending on your web browser settings, you might have to clean your web browser cache to have the 36 hours projection line displaying ok.

Re: Test projection line update from 18 hours to 36 hours
Dear skippers:
The 36 hours projection line functions (manual heading update, scheduler update, scheduler swing, etc) have been implemented today on the test serveur (thanks for testing).
This will be moved to the production server tomorow Thursday October 1st after noon (UTC+2).
More scheduler points will be added later to fully use the 36 hours projection line.

Re: Test projection line update from 18 hours to 36 hours
Bonjour
The extended projection line seems to be working ok in the game.
Although we need to be careful in trusting the prediction too much, i think it will be very useful for faster boats.
merci pour le upgrade
!! Ahhh c'est disparu

Re: Test projection line update from 18 hours to 36 hours
Hi all;
All the updates for the 36 hours projection line have been moved on Nestor, the production server, late this morning.
Everything seems ok except that on some races, at opening and when refresshing, the iteration points every 10 minutes are wrong (those of another race).
You can get back the right projection line by updating or adding a scheduler point.
This bug is little tricky, we are trying to solve it.

Re: Test projection line update from 18 hours to 36 hours
After further thoughts about this improvement, as an alternative to adding more scheduler points, maybe if after the last point the windvane could be set, it would be just as well since in all cases, at the next weather update the winds will be slightly different from those expected.
At the moment the windvane works until one meets the first schedule point. This would work the opposite way, it would work after the last point. Just a thought!
